Mercedes VW MiniVan Joint Venture for Canada and America

The Dodge sprinter is a rebranded Mercedes which is ultimatly manufactured by Volkswagen.

So to me it doesn't seem too strange that Dailmer Chrysler is going to cooperate with Volkswagen to build a MiniVan for North America.

As the German Car blog said:

The cooperation could be announced in January at the Detroit Motor Show. A Volkswagen spokesman said that a decision is going to made soon.
He also stated that the VW van will be based on the Chrysler Voyager and will be produced by Chrysler. Earliest production date is said to be 2007 and the van will be exclusively sold in the US. An introduction to Europe is not planned so far.

Volkswagen currently doesn't offer a minivan in North America. I look forward to Volswagen returning to the market segment that they inveneted.
